Bayern’s Munich honorary president, Uli Hoeness, was rushed to hospital after suffering a burst vein while attending a charity golf event.

  WHAT HAPPENED?

  The 73-year-old required urgent medical attention. He is now said to be "doing well", with reporting that the former West Germany international was cleared to leave hospital on Saturday evening.

  Hoeness was taken ill on the golf course at Miel Castle, which is situated around 270 miles from Munich. The charity event in question was hosted by Timotheus Hottges, the CEO of Telekom – a key sponsor of Bundesliga champions Bayern.

  Hoeness is a club legend at Bayern having made 329 appearances for the club between 1970 and 1979. He helped them to three domestic titles during that time and a hat-trick of European Cup triumphs, while also winning the World Cup at international level in 1974.
